On a beautiful fall morning, six Delta pilots volunteered to represent ALPA and Delta Air Lines at the grand opening of an aviation-themed playground next to the Cobb County International Airport. Our pilots led games for the kids, posed for photos and talked to attendees about pilot careers.

Several hundred community members attended the park’s grand opening celebration, including local politicians, aviation enthusiasts and families. Students from the Walker School chorus sang the national anthem to kick off the ceremony, and were the first to explore the playground.

At the ALPA table, our pilot volunteers helped children design, decorate and fly paper airplanes. The kids had a wonderful time showing off their designs in a contest to see whose plane could fly the furthest. Our pilots gave out prizes to all of the children and presented the chorus director with a model of a Delta A350 for the entire class to enjoy. ALPA provided handouts to the children to spark their interest in pursuing a career in aviation, and many students told us they want to become a Delta pilot!

Thank you to the city of Kennesaw and all those involved for creating this innovative park, and to our pilot volunteers who helped make the ribbon cutting event a success. If you have the chance, visit Aviation Park in Kennesaw, Ga., where generations of kids will be inspired to dream of a career in the sky while they play.
